THE PORK BBQ SANDWICH RECIPE
The Pork BBQ:
2 pounds BBQ Pork, pulled, chopped
freshly ground Black Pepper
BBQ Sauce (see Barbecue Sauce Recipe, below.)
The BBQ Sauce:
1 Cup Onion, very finely minced
3 garlic Cloves, peeled, crushed and finely minced
1 Cup Heinz® ketchup
4 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons Dry Mustard
¼ cup
Cider Vinegar
¼ cup
Light Brown Sugar
2½ teaspoons
Chili Powder
½ teaspoon Crystal® hot pepper sauce.
The Coleslaw:
2 Cups White Cabbage; finely shredded
¼ cup
Carrot, coarsely grated
½
cup Red Onion, thinly sliced then chopped
2 teaspoons fresh Lemon Juice
4 Tablespoons Mayonnaise
Salt and Black Pepper.
5 fresh Hamburger Rolls, halved open
and lightly toasted on the inside.
Preparing the BBQ Pork - In a bowl combine
Pulled Pork
and ⅔ cup of the barbecue sauce (see BBQ Sauce Recipe below.) Season
the mixture with Pepper. Heat the Pork mixture in a 2-quart saucepan over medium
heat for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Make the
BBQ Sauce: In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, add the onion and garlic and
heat, stirring consistently until onion is translucent. Add the Ketchup, Worcestershire sauce,
Dry Mustard, Vinegar,
Light Brown Sugar, Chili Powder, and Hot Pepper Sauce. Simmer the
mixture, stirring frequently for 15 minutes. Plane the cooked sauce to
a bowl on the countertop. Allow it to cool. The BBQ sauce may be made in
advance. Make the Coleslaw: In a bowl,
fully combine
the prepared Carrot, Onion, Mayonnaise, Lemon Juice and the Salt and
Pepper, to taste. Add in the shredded Cabbage.
At serving time, open a Rolls, fill with it a freshly stirred pile of
the BBQ Pork, then top each served BBQ Pork Sandwich with the fresh
Coleslaw. Add Salt to taste.
Serve the remaining BBQ Sauce on the
